“I know it was best for me, and has paved the way for me to get my life and my mental health in order.”
A client’s experience of medical abortion with MSI.
“I wanted to have a child when I was in a more established career, and had a secure future so I could give it the best life possible. Luckily I had the full support of my boyfriend and the few family and friends I told.”
I fell pregnant due to missing a few pills and it was six weeks before I knew about it, as my periods usually come around once every 3 months. I only took a test because my breasts were sore and I was needing to pee a lot more. I was a little excited when I found out, as was my boyfriend, but we both knew we didn’t have the option to keep it. We both worked a small amount of hours and were still living with our parents at the time. Not to mention how bad my mental health was at the time. I wanted to have a child when I was in a more established career, and had a secure future so I could give it the best life possible. Luckily I had the full support of my boyfriend and the few family and friends I told.
I was originally supposed to have a surgical abortion, but because I had eaten too soon before the anaesthetic, I had to reschedule. Luckily, they found out I was 9 weeks and 2 days along, so I was just about in the time frame to have a medical abortion instead. I came back the next day to take my second pill, and went home.
“I can’t thank MSI enough for the support in a difficult time for me.”
It was painful, but it lasted only a few hours. It was a good decision to go through with the abortion, and I don’t regret it at all. I know it was best for me, and has paved the way for me to get my life and my mental health in order. I am now ready to have a baby, I am just waiting to move into a more suitable house, then me and my partner will start trying.
Throughout it all, every professional I came into contact with was brilliant. My doctor was really helpful, the staff I spoke to at the MSI contact centre were great, and all of the receptionists and nurses I encountered on both days at the clinic were wonderful.
I didn’t feel any pressure about my decision from anyone; the nurses sensed I was a little nervous and asked me a few times if I was sure that this is what I wanted, but they were never forceful, and didn’t try to change my decision.
