Your fertility after an abortion and the importance of contraception counselling

You can conceive again really quickly after an abortion; in fact an egg can be released from the ovary as soon as 8 days after your treatment so you could become pregnant again before your next period. We want to help you to choose the contraception that’s right for you after your abortion and offer we contraception counselling as part of your abortion care.

Here at MSI Reproductive Choices UK we want to help you to choose the contraception that’s right for you after your abortion and offer we contraception counselling as part of your abortion care.

You might think that you don’t need any contraception- maybe you’re not having sex regularly, or you’ve split up with your partner- but we’d recommend you leaving us with some contraception in place because we all know that life throws unexpected events our way and it’s always best to be prepared.

If you really don’t want to get pregnant again, say for the next year at least, it’s worth thinking about a LARC method

LARC stands for long acting reversible contraception, such as the implant, coil and injection.  These methods are fantastic because not only are they the most effective, they don’t interrupt sex and once they’re fitted you can forget about them.  But they’re all reversible so, if you want to, you can plan a future pregnancy at a time that’s right for you.

You could say these are the gold standard of the contraception world!

After discussing the LARC options- the fit and forget methods, the video series ends with an overview of the  short-acting contraception methods.

Have a look at our new contraception video series!

In this new video series Julia Hogan, contraception nurse consultant and Simphiwe Sesane, contraception nurse at MSI Reproductive Choices will tell you more about your contraception options:
