Story: “My abortion was easy and straightforward”

Me and my boyfriend were not ready to be parents.

A client’s experience of a medical abortion at home (telemedicine).

Please don’t read all the horror stories like I did, because it made me so much more anxious than I needed to be.”

I read all of the horror stories online and I was so so scared to have an abortion but me and my boyfriend were not ready to be parents. We’re both 26, but it just wasn’t the right time for us.

So, I filled in the form online and a lovely lady called me the next day to get me booked in with a nurse. The day after that another lovely nurse called me (I emphasize on lovely because I thought I would be judged but I didn’t feel this way at all). She answered all of my questions and talked me through it.

“I’m so grateful to be able to do this for free and legally.”

The day after that my medication arrived and I took the first tablet, I felt fine with a tiny bit of bleeding that evening. 24 hours later I inserted the 4 tablets and within 3 hours it had all come away, I did take the remaining 2 tablets orally just to be safe. I had the slightest period-like pains, but nothing compared to what I was expecting.* I took 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen before the tablets on the 2nd day but I think I would have been fine without pain relief. I’ve been bleeding for 7 days but it is very light now. I was 4 weeks and 6 days when I went through this.

Please don’t read all of the horror stories like I did because it made me so much more anxious than I needed to be. I’m so so grateful to be able to do this for free and legally.

I can’t thank MSI enough. It was really easy and straightforward.

*Every person is different and will experience different levels of pain and bleeding during a medical abortion, but most people will have significant cramping pain and will find pain relief helpful. If pain is severe, this is usually short lived and is relieved when the pregnancy passes. Find out more about medical abortion and pain relief here.
