“Although the physical experience was painful, I was grateful that the process was easy, private and allowed me to go about my day the following day.”

A client’s experience of a medical abortion at home (telemedicine) after a COVID-19 lockdown.

“About 20 minutes after I realised my pregnancy test was positive, I was on the phone to MSI UK.”

I realised I was accidentally pregnant in April 2021, just coming out of a COVID lockdown. I was 20 and not ready to be a parent.

About 20 minutes after I realised my pregnancy test was positive, I was on the phone to MSI UK. I knew they were one of the UK’s biggest abortion care providers and so went to their website to find their phone number.

It was really simple, they asked me non-judgmental questions and booked me in for an appointment in their clinic in Central London a few days later. As I was only 5 weeks pregnant, I was able to have an at-home abortion experience.

“They offered a counselling/talking service, which although I didn’t use, I was grateful it was there.”

I was given the mife+miso* combo at the clinic and took my first pill there. The day after, I took the second pills as advised. Although the physical experience was painful, I was grateful that the process was easy, private and allowed me to go about my day the following day.

The clinic followed up with me and gave me free contraception and a pregnancy testing kit to ensure that my abortion was successful. They offered a counselling/talking service, which although I didn’t use, I was grateful it was there.

*Mifepristone and misoprostol are the names of the two types of tablets taken during a medical abortion.
